Springfield, IL – July 29, 2014 — The AMA Pro Flat Track Rookie’s Class of ’79 and Friends is a 501-C3 dedicated to giving back to the sport that had given its members so much. Saturday, August 30th the group will be hosting the 35th Anniversary Reunion of AMA Pro Flat Track Rookie’s Class of ’79 at the IMDA/AMA All Star Short track. There will be a meet and greet with three -time World Grand Prix Champion Wayne Rainey along with AMA Grand National Champions Scott Parker, Jay Springsteen, Bubba Shobert and Chris Carr. Participants can watch the races while enjoying food and beverages and meet the stars of racing. There will be a live and silent auction of race memorabilia. Net proceeds go to benefit injured riders and their families.
“We’ve been raising money for injured riders and their families since 2009, totaling more than $100,000. The need just keeps getting bigger,” said Charlie Roberts, CEO Class of 79 and Friends. “We’re expecting huge crowds this year. Enthusiasts are going to enjoy themselves while helping out injured riders.”
On Sunday, August 31st fans will have the opportunity to Ride the Springfield Mile before the race. Fans must be in the infield of the track prior to 12:00pm to sign up .Enter through the tunnel, and follow signs. Cost to ride is $10. Proceeds go to AMA Pro Flat Track Rookie’s Class of ’79 and Friends injured rider’s fund. Fans will have the opportunity to ride the mile along with several past and present Grand National Championship riders such as Scott Parker, Bubba Shobert, Jay Springsteen, Chris Carr, Kenny Coolbeth, Brad Baker, Bryan Smith, Brandon Robinson and many more!
