Randy Renfrow and Doug Chandler wave to the fans on their lap of introduction before the start of the Camel Challenge race at Road Atlanta in May of 1988. The Camel Challenge races were an extra money race reserved for the top six Superbike qualifiers. The Camel Challenges seriously padded the pocketbooks of the riders involved. As an example in this event the Camel Challenge paid out $17,500 spread out among six riders. Compare that to the main Superbike event at which paid a total of $30,000 ($3900 to the winner) spread out over 40 riders. Besides the money, part of the prestige of the Challenge was the pre-event hoopla where fans got to see the riders without their gear on in this introduction lap.

Those were the days! Thank you Larry for putting these Archives and Rider Files out to the world!
