10 Entertainment Brings Pavement to Flat Track
Coatesville, PA (March 2, 2014)- 10 Entertainment is bringing pavement to flat track racing at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Friday May 16th under the lights during the 75th running of the Myrtle Beach Bike Week. An one off 1/5th mile paved short track will be built inside the Myrtle Beach Speedway 1/2 mile typically used for late model car racing. Top AMA Pro Flat Track and top amateur flat track riders have already committed to compete at this one off pavement short track event called “Short Track Mayhem at Myrtle Beach”.
It’s been over 10 years that flat track racers have had the chance to compete on paved (asphalt) ovals. MARS- Motorcycle Asphalt Racing Series ran a professional racing series in the 90’s and late 2000 that had many of the top AMA Pro Flat Track racers competing on Rotax 600s or XR 750s on larger short tracks and half miles across the country. MARS racing was unique with long slides, laying rubber marks for hundreds of feet around the oval track. The series even completed at Myrtle Beach Speedway 1/2 mile in it’s prime.
AMA Pro Flat Track and former AMA Pro Supermoto racer Johnny Lewis decided he wanted to bring this type of racing back. ” I’m still very passionate about supermoto, I love flat track, so I decided why not bring both forms of riding together and make an event out of it for everyone to enjoy,” stated Lewis. “It’s going to make for a great event for the spectators but also the riders will have a blast. Sliding on pavement is amazing, its very consistent, and after you see the rubber marks you left from the last lap around you just won’t want to stop,” added Lewis.
10 Entertainment is joining forces with Myrtle Beach Speedway and Supermoto East Coast to put this event on. The event will host amateur classes and a Pro class with top AMA Pro/ amateur flat track riders from across the country. Riders will take part in the event to have a chance to take home the $3000 minimum Pro Purse and thousands of dollars worth of amateur awards which will include products such as racing gear, Kicker Audio products and much more. Short Track Mayhem at Myrtle Beach will also feature a Strider bike race for kids as young as 2 years old during the opening ceremonies. ” These kids are our future motorcycle racing stars, they have to start somewhere and Strider has came on as a supporter of the event to bring the kids of the fans or even kids of racers like myself a chance to actually race around the track the professionals race on,” said Lewis.
With the 75th running of the Myrtle Beach Bike Week event kicking off May 12th and the second annual Myrtle Beach Bike Fest taking place at the Myrtle Beach Speedway facility thousands of spectators are estimated to join in on the Short Track Mayhem at Myrtle Beach event that will kick off Friday May 16th with guest announcer Scottie Deubler.
