Andy Leisner (No. 6) speeds his AJ Racing Honda RS250 through Daytona International Speedway’s West Horseshoe ahead of Lance Jones (No. 30) on his McIver Racer/Survival Games Honda during the 1987 AMA 250 Grand Prix race at Daytona. Leisner and Jones were among the front runners all race and both finished on the lead lap in the 28-lap final won by former world champ Kork Ballington. Jones was best known as a flat tracker – he won the 1978 AMA Rookie of the Year Award – but he also proved to be a very capable road racer as well. Leisner came out on top in this battle, finishing eighth in the 61-rider field while Jones was 11^th. After hanging up his racing leathers Leisner went on to become one of the prime movers and shakers in the industry and is now Publisher at Cycle World magazine.
