Rainey Checking Out Bubba’s Bike

Wayne Rainey seems to find something interesting on the front end of Honda teammate Bubba Shobert’s bike as it gets a new rear tire in the pits at Loudon in 1986. Note the white rim, perhaps Shobert’s teams was experimenting with a different tire size or different wheel on the front of Shobert’s bike. Rainey went on to win the Loudon Superbike race that weekend. Shobert battled local favorite Dale Quarterley the entire distance before outbraking him in the final turn to take third. It was a Honda sweep of the podium that day with Rainey, Fred Merkel and Shobert finishing 1-2-3.

  1. The United States produced so many world class riders back then.
What do we need to do to find dominance again?
I have lost interest in international racing knowing our best are not expected to podium as they Slide backwards racing ten years past their prime
