Hendersonville, North Carolina: This weekend, at the AMA Pro Road Racing Round 8, at New Jersey Motorsports Park, in Millville, New Jersey, Öhlins racers dominated the dominating with wins in both Superbike races, both Daytona Sportbike races, and both Supersport races, confirming that the Öhlins comfort of control is securely leading in AMA Pro Racing’s Superbike, Daytona Sportbike, and Supersport West classes.
Graves Yamaha took the wins in each Superbike class race, with the Joshes of Herrin and Hayes sharing the top step of the podium; Herrin winning Saturday, Hayes winning Sunday, Öhlins winning on both days. Martin Cardenas earned two third-place finishes on those podiums with his Yoshimura Suzuki Factory racing team, buffering his third-place standings in the 2013 Superbike championship behind Herrin and Hayes, and ensuring an Öhlins sweep of the top-three places for the season.
It was double wins for a single racer in the Daytona Sportbike doubleheader, with Cameron Beaubier conquering in Race One and Two on his YES/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha. In Race One, three teams participated in the all-Yamaha, all-Öhlins podium, with Jake Lewis earning second on his Mean Motorsports Racing YZF-R6, followed by Jake Gagne on his RoadRace Factory YZF-R6. In DSB Race Two, behind Beaubier was his YES/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammate Garrett Gerloff, with the all-Öhlins podium rounded out by Bobby Fong on his D&D Cycles Triumph. Like in Superbike, it’s again turning into a certain sweep of the championship podium, with Beaubier, Gagne, and Gerloff owning those positions with one event remaining.
In Supersport action, it was a first-second trade from Race One to Race Two, with Hayden Gillim riding the Team 95 Yamaha to the first first, and the second second, trading with Thomas Puerta, who earn the second first and the first second, in this tightly contest and supremely entertaining middleweight class battle. If that’s not clear, Gillim won, then he finished second, and Thomas Puerta finished second and then he won, the later doing so on his RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6.
One event to go: the combined WSBK/AMA pro racing event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, September 27-29. To watch this season-closing event you need to do it the old fashion way: in person. No TV.
