Scott Russell leads Scott Zampach (No. 204), Jamie James (No. 58) and others on the first lap of what is probably the A Production final at the 1987 WERA Grand National Final. What really gets your attention in this shot though is the unidentified rider kicking up a major cloud of red Georgia clay as he crashes out. This photo is part of the Greg Sickmeier Collection.

Does anyone remember who the faller was?

Not me Larry. I’ve crashed at RA and still have the red clay stained leathers 20+ years later to prove it !
Love that place and hope the new owners (NastyCar) don’t ruin it!

I dont know who that is but the same thing happened to me that year that weekend as a novice. Bob White was leading the a production novice final with me right on his heals. he did the same thing flew accross that dirt in the same spot. all i could see was a wall of red. i popped through it hoping he was not on the track but all i could see was that beautifull ribbon of black running down that hill. and i was leading at the GNF i will never forget it.
Thanks
