Widman’s Throwback Style

Ron Widman had been an AMA flat tracker and road racer in the 1960s and ‘70s, but with more responsibilities with his family dealership and life in general, Ron scaled back his racing and pretty much limited his fun to local motocross. In the mid-1980s Widman decided to come back to road racing in the club ranks. He still had his pre-Kenny Roberts, knee-in riding style, but he managed to do really well against his knee-dragging brethren.

Ron Widman still used his old-school riding style when he returned to road racing in the mid-1980s. Here he races a WERA event at Grattan Raceway in May of 1987. (Larry Lawrence photo)
