A group of riders race bar to bar through the infield at Rockingham during a WERA National Endurance race in May of 1988. Bringing up the rear is Red Stripe Racing’s Brent Schuster, then John Madry (unknown team), Rabbit Racing’s Britt Turkington, Dave Schmidt of Team Indy, and two other riders up front. A total of 51 teams started the race, which was won by Team Suzuki Endurance with riders Jamie James, Mike Harth and Russ Paulk. After the race James said, “Not many things in life scare me, but I can truly say this track really makes me flinch.” Check out the height of the distant banking at the top of the photo.
