Here are press kit materials from the 1998 Vance & Hines Ducati AMA Superbike squad featuring Thomas Stevens and Anthony Gobert. It looked like a formidable squad on paper, but that season the team didn’t live up to expectations. Stevens flat out struggled, managing only few top-five finishes. Gobert showed flashes of brilliance earning victories at Phoenix (where he famously came to the season opener overweight and out of shape and said in the post-race press conference “I wanted to see how fat I could get and still win one of these things.”), Road Atlanta and Road America. Inconsistency meant Gobert only managed ninth in the final standings.
