Porsche Design Helmet

The early 1980s was an exciting time in terms of helmet design. The full-face helmet had been around since the mid-1960s and new, relatively inexpensive molding techniques allowed designers to step outside the bounds of convention and explore more adventurous looks. The Star Wars movies provided the inspiration for the Simpson Model 30, which was all the rage in the early 1980s. Other unique design included helmets like the Ghibli and this, a Romer Helmet out of the famous Porsche Design Studios. Porsche Design was involved in numerous classic men’s accessories such as watches, eyeglasses, and writing utensils. I don’t recall seeing many of these helmets on the road or tracks in those days, but it represents another iconic brand stamping its mark during an exciting time in the evolution of motorcycle helmets.
