Jay Denham runs off the track during a WERA sprint race at Grattan in April of 1987. Denham, one of the leading riders in WERA’s North Central Region at the time, was probably going close to triple-digit speed when he ran off and he did the best he could do the haul down the bike on the grass, but in the end he launched off a hill on the last frame. There were plenty of trees to hit along the way too that Jay had to try to avoid. I don’t recall, and maybe Jay will fill us in, but I don’t think he was injured too badly in this crash, so it’s one of those that he could laugh about later.
