I interviewed former road racer Andy Fenwick the other day and we talked about some of the crazy tracks he raced over the years. Rockingham, Nelson Ledges, Loudon and Blackhawk came up. The one track that was mentioned I’d nearly forgotten about was the road course at the Milwaukee Mile. Believe it or not the Milwaukee Mile has a tiny little road course in the middle of the mile oval and WERA raced there, possibly a one-off race, in 1988. Fenwick described the circuit as like having a Superbike race in your backyard. In this shot Scott Zampach (No. 204) leads Jim Still (No. 25), Dan Clemens (No. 474), Stevie Patterson (No. 141) and Kevin Fardoux (No. 42). Look in the background and you can see what a challenge WERA had making the track semi-raceable. They probably bought every haybale in Eastern Wisconsin for the race. I remember one particular section the riders had to negotiate a narrow gate opening to get back out on the oval track section. If you raced this track and have more memories of it please leave a comment.
