I generally have a pretty good recollection of exactly where on a track I took a photograph from, even all these years later. Especially at a track like Grattan, where I probably shot more races than at any other single track. In this 1987 photo of Dave Barnard leading Fritz Kling I honestly have no idea which corner of the Grattan circuit this is. Another mystery is the bike is Barnard is on. It almost looks maybe like a Yamaha RZ500. Kling is on a Honda Hurricane. If that is in fact an RZ500 Barnard is racing, what an interesting matchup against the Hurricane. I’m certain the Hurricane handled much better on the twisty and technical track, but I’m betting Barnard had a fairly big advantage on the straights. No idea who came out on top here. Perhaps Dave will remember his finish and maybe which corner this is.
