Adamo at Elkhart Lake

Jimmy Adamo, riding a Ducati Superbike, leads a big pack into Road America’s turn seven during the AMA Superbike race there in June of 1990. Yoshimura Suzuki’s Scott Gray (No. 73) trails Adamo into the turn. Just to the inside of Gray and directly behind Adamo I believe is Mark Chin. Also visible are John Hopperstad (No. 98), Carry Andrew (No. 41), Barry Burke (No. 27) and Fritz Kling (No. 40). Adamo was best known primarily as a Battle of the Twins rider, but he often raced Superbike as well. He scored five top-five Superbike results including a podium finish at Mid-Ohio in 1983. Unfortunately Adamo lost his life in a crash during the 1993 Daytona 200. He will always be remembered as one of the all-time greats of AMA road racing.
