Russell’s Standout Performance at Talladega

Scott Russell, racing the Solmax Racing Suzuki GSXR1100, goes around the outside of another endurance racer (possibly John Taupin of Cycle Exchange Racing) during a WERA National Endurance race at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway in March of 1988. It was a remarkable performance for Russell that day. He single-handedly led Solmax to victory, this after his partner Kevin Rentzell crashed twice. Russell made up an eight-lap deficit to lift Solmax to victory over Kayo Racing and Team Suzuki. It was one of those standout races that let everyone know that Russell was a special talent.
