I found this old video of the Canadian round of the 1989 World superbike Championship. It’s near and dear to my heart since I covered the event for American Roadracing. The things I remember most were the wild and raw riding style of Giancarlo Falappa, the speed of a very young Miguel Duhamel and Rueben McMurter making Canadians proud. The track was crazy. At the start of race one check out from the helicopter shot the barrier on the outside of turn one comes that curls back in and actually greets the riders head on, only feet off the racing line. I actually shot out there for a few laps and it scared the bejeezus out of me. Oh, and Fred Merkel’s girlfriend was quite memorable too. She’s shown briefly at the 5-second mark of the video. Enjoy.
