Brotz Celebrates WERA National Title

Frank Brotz waves to the crowd after he scored victory in the WERA Formula 3 race at the 1990 WERA Grand National Final. Brotz always seemed to race some of the coolest, nearly unobtainable motorcycles out there. The bike he’s on here I believe is a Honda CBR250RR, a street screamer with a 16-valve, liquid-cooled, inline four that redlined at 15,000 rpm. In this race Brotz chased down early leaders Johnny Hodgkiss and Andre Vandenberg and then battled with Al Lainhart until Lainhart’s MBA 125 seized. If Hodgkiss’ name is familiar, he went on to work as tuner for Ben Spies, when Spies was a rising star in club racing.
