Frank Brotz waves to the crowd after he scored victory in the WERA Formula 3 race at the 1990 WERA Grand National Final. Brotz always seemed to race some of the coolest, nearly unobtainable motorcycles out there. The bike he’s on here I believe is a Honda CBR250RR, a street screamer with a 16-valve, liquid-cooled, inline four that redlined at 15,000 rpm. In this race Brotz chased down early leaders Johnny Hodgkiss and Andre Vandenberg and then battled with Al Lainhart until Lainhart’s MBA 125 seized. If Hodgkiss’ name is familiar, he went on to work as tuner for Ben Spies, when Spies was a rising star in club racing.

I think its a CBR250RR, Still a trick grey market unit,probably has a 16,000 rpm redline.

Cool to think about four little 62cc cylinders humming along at 15K!

Would they have allowed a 250 in F3? I don’t remember the rules. Maybe because its a 4-stroke 250?

Mark,
I bet you’re right – since it was a four-stroke it could race against the more typical 125cc two-strokes.
