I hadn’t heard of Red Wing shocks, but they were good enough for AMA Grand National racer Don Castro according to this ad from the mid-1970s. A quick internet search revealed these shocks, or copies of them, are in demand for vintage racing.

I was an expert AMA dirt track racer at that time. Red Wing & S&W shocks were all the rage back then for sure. I preferred S&W, the “W” stood for Tim Witham noted dirt track tuner and Ken Roberts mechanic, among others.

I had a set of Red Wings in my attic. We put them on a RL250 Suzuki Trials bike that we tranformed from a basket case to a nice vintage trials machine last winter. We will be riding it Wednesday night on some makeshift trials sections. The shocks really work well for early 70’s technology.
