Indianapolis-based racer Jim Knipp takes turn five at Road Atlanta on his Honda RC30 during the 1990 WERA Grand National Final. Knipp, who won a WERA National title in the early 1980s, raced a wide variety of machines during his career. He won his national title on a very trick Kawasaki KZ650-based F1 style bike. He then raced Honda inline fours in AMA Superbike, moved to a Yamaha YZ500 GP bike for AMA Formula One. He also raced a Honda 600 Hurricane and this RC30. Jim was a Honda mechanic and always had immaculately prepared equipment and won a ton of races at his home track, Indianapolis Raceway Park, over the years.

Great year, I got the chance to go down to the GNF with The Knipper that year, had a blast. He also won a championship at Grattan, can’t remember what they called it, but he slayed ’em on his YZ500 that particular year. Great guy and great times!
