The Human Race Team’s Ben Martinez brings the HRT Yamaha FZR1000 into the pits for a stop during the 1987 Nelson Ledges 24 Hour WERA National Endurance Race. Fellow rider Kurt Hall readies to take over the bike. The team went on to win the grueling race covering 2036 miles on the decaying Nelson Ledges circuit in Northern Ohio. Lightning strikes in the area caused a 45-minute delay preventing HRT from setting a new 24-hour endurance mileage record. Riders for the Zoomin’ Humans that day included Martinez and Hall, along with Andy Fenwick, Tom Morrissey and John Eidenberger. This is from the Greg Sickmeier collection.

I was there with John that day, HRT was a first class bunch.

Hey Larry this is the 1987 race in which I think we won our class, heavy production, we won the overall in 1988 on the superbike with the 45 min rain delay etc.
do you have any photos of the 88 race?

Marshall- Thanks for the HRT comment. I thought maybe I was the only one who noticed. HRT won lots of races and did it without punting others off the track as another well known competitor was known for. I always got passed cleanly by HRT riders.
Ben- I have 88 pics if you are still looking.
