Royale Racing’s Jim East gets lapped by Team Suzuki Endurance rider Mike Smith during the WERA/EBC Brakes Six-Hour National Endurance at Roebling Road Raceway in March of 1989. Smith was in a hurry since he and teammate Paul Bray were trying to outrun their archrivals the Human Race Team. Team Suzuki, on a Suzuki GSXR1100K, went on to win the race over the Humans. Royale, a perennial front runner in the smaller classes, scored second in the Mediumweight Superbike class (fourth overall) with East and teammate Doug Henry handling the riding chores on the team’s Yamaha FZR600.
