Speed Boys Summit Point Pit Stop

Speed Boys was a leading WERA National Endurance team in the mid-1980s. This photo is of Speed Boys making a pit stop at Summit Point in June of 1985. The team went on to win the race, their first ever overall victory in the championship. I don’t recall the riders for Speed Boys. I think that’s Larry Burkholder holding the rags on the gas tank.  Speed Boys went on to finish second overall in the final standings.

  1. You are right, Larry. That is Larry Burkholder and that is Bob Frank that has Keystone Honda on his leathers.
I just forwarded this link to Bob. He should be able to fill in some more details about the Speed Boys for you.

  2. Hi Larry, that was a long time ago, it’s surprising to see that photo but I’m sure you have thousands. The other riders are Mark Heiser(next to me)and John Yurejefcic(next to Larry)The late Randy Texter also rode with us at select races. I believe he rode with us when we won the 24 hour at Nelson Ledges. Tom Parr also rode some of the races.
Larry, Mark and I were the primary riders. It was a great team and we had alot of fun. I’m glad to see you are still involved. Take care, Bob

  3. Left side of Larry Burholder is John Yurejefcic. To the right side of Bob Frank is Mark Heiser. Fellow with the gas can is Steve Slotterback.
Summit Point that day was our first national overall win. Shortly after that we won an overall at Road Atlanta and later the overall at the Nelson Ledges 24 hr with te help of Jimmy Tribou.
We had a lot of fun on and off the track.

  4. What John said! He’d know. Great group of guys, who indeed truly enjoyed the success they earned in both ’84 & ’85. Proud to have known them. Cheers, Ken
