Scott Zampach (on the Suzuki GSXR50 in the foreground) along with Dave Rosno (center), Tom Nelson (No. 962) and other riders get ready for the big WERA mini-bike race at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in September of 1987. The mini-bike races were a fun diversion usually held at the end of Sunday’s races along pit road. The races always put a smile on everyone’s face to cap off a fun weekend of racing. This is one from the Greg Sickmeier Collection.

Ed Key way on the left. Tom Nelson is #962. I’m in the center sporting the Merkel helmet. Is that Kurt Hall’s bright, smiling cheeks behind me?
I have a video of a YSR race from ’87 with Ed, Scott, and others… Might have been this race.

Pit bike races were a money maker and huge fan draw at my Wegman Benefit auctions in the early years….. then CCS put a stop to them. 😦

Note the Decal on Zman GSXR50, Ron and Brians Suzuki in Waukegan! The shop I used to work at, Ed Key rode a GSXR 750 prepped by Avery Innis from there too. Cool Pic!
