Lantz vs. Kocan – IRP (1993)

Brian Lantz (No. 4), on his Suzuki GSXR750, leads the Kawasaki ZX7 of Scott Kocan (No. 411) through the carousel at Indianapolis Raceway Park in a WERA Sprint race on April 4, 1993. This is likely the Formula One final, where Lantz just beat out Kocan to finish fourth. The lean angle of both riders is not that impressive. One issue was Indy’s carousel was notorious for being dirty and slick. The other issue is the weather. IRP was a busy facility and it seemed WERA could only get the track on the edges of the racing season, which meant early April and mid-October race dates. This particular weekend was typical IRP. It was gusty and the temperatures never climbed out of the 40s. That meant getting tires up to racing temps was a challenge to say the least. Very few riders were brave enough to try a hard lean angle through the carousel that day.
