“Springer” Racing WERA National Endurance

Three-time AMA Grand National Champion Jay Springsteen races around the outside of another competitor during a Kerker/SBS WERA National Endurance race at Grattan Raceway on July 28, 1990. “Springer” was racing for a team called American Eagle with Fritz Kling and Ray Yoder teaming with the flat track legend. The squad ran as high as third overall before their bike encountered an oil-cooler leak in the fifth hour of the race. Springsteen did occasional WERA races on off weekends (especially low-key regional endurance races) to keep his road racing skills sharp.
