Here’s a photo from the 1986 Indy Mile showing what I think is a Heat race start, probably from Sunday’s day race. Hitting the launch button in the shot are Chris Carr (No. 20), Keith Day (No. 22), Peter Hook (No. 77), Tim Mertens (No. 53), Mike Ragan (No. 84), Pete Hames (No. 32), and Don Estep (No. 64). On the second row you can see David Miller (No. 71) and possibly Robert Land (3z). This was in the days of the Indy Mile Doubleheader held during the Indiana State Fair. This year the Lucas Oil Indy Mile once again returns, for the first time since 1997, as a featured event of the Indiana State Fair, and coincides with the new date for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend.
