(NEWS RELEASE)
INDIANAPOLIS, Saturday, April 7, 2012 – A statement from Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Belskus about the death April 6 of artist Thomas Kinkade, who created special paintings for the Indianapolis 500 in 2009 and 2011:
“Everyone at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is saddened by the passing of Thomas Kinkade. Known worldwide for his unique style, we were pleased that he was able to lend his creativity to our 2009 and 2011 Indianapolis 500 program covers. As we celebrated our Centennial Era (2009-11), especially the 100th anniversary of the track (2009) and the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 (2011), having an artist of Thomas’ stature produce the ‘500’ program artwork was an extremely fitting way to celebrate the history of the race. We enjoyed working with Thomas and were honored to have him at the race as a distinguished guest. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the entire Thomas Kinkade organization.”
