Double Duty Doug

Doug Chandler leads a talented group of riders that includes John Ashmead (No. 37), Jimmy Adamo (No. 26), Gary Goodfellow (No. 11) and Scott Zampach at the Mid-Ohio Superbike race in August of 1987. Chandler, who went on to finish fifth in this race on his Honda, was a rookie in AMA Superbike that season and was splitting time between road racing and flat tracking. He finished fifth in the final AMA Superbike standings and third in the AMA Grand National Championship. Chandler proved to be one of the most versatile racers ever. He went on to become one of only four riders in AMA racing history to win the Grand Slam, by winning nationals on all forms of flat track racing tracks and a road race national. Only Dick Mann, Kenny Roberts and Bubba Shobert managed the feat before Chandler.
