Here’s a photo Dave Leach, a multi-time Isle of Man TT winner, racing the 1990 AMA Supersport race at Daytona International Speedway. Leach was once asked by the Daytona media corps what it was like racing on the high banks of Daytona and he was quoted as saying, “Daytona’s a little scary.” The media had a bit of a laugh over that one since the Irishman annually raced the Isle of Man, considered one of the most dangerous motorcycle races in the world. Leach had a strong outing in the 1990 Daytona 600 Supersport race, where he finished fifth. A few weeks later he won the opening round of the European 600 Supersport Championship at the Salzburgring in Austria, predecessor of today’s World Supersport Championship.

Obviously Mr. Leach was more accustomed to scraping stone walls and curbs than the asphalt… (notice how he wore his knee pucks!)
