Jay Springsteen prepares for the start of the 1990 Daytona 200. Springer, a three-time AMA Grand National Champion, is known of course mainly for his prowess on the flat tracks of America, but Jay wasn’t bad on the pavement either. In the Daytona 200 for example, Springsteen scored three top-10 finishes, including a very strong fifth in 1986. In this 1990 race he took eighth, just behind Tom Kipp and just ahead of Jacques Guenette, Jr. Fellow racer Mike Smith can be seen wearing a headband in the background.
