Superbike Style Check

Here’s a comparison of Superbike cornering styles two decades apart. From the same turn at Mid-Ohio, on the top row  we look at the 1992 race with riders Randy Renfrow, Tom Kipp, Michael Taylor and Pablo Real and compare them to four riders – Jordan Burgess, Jason Farrell, Larry Pegram and Chris Fillmore – from the 2011 race. More than anything it’s amazing how similar the periods are. The current bikes might have a little more lean angle and the riders today look to be riding a bit more forward over the front wheel, but the overall riding position, accounting for individual differences, seems very familiar.

  1. Yep very simaler with the laws of physics in place with basic of the bikes the same.
    The BIG change came in riding styles stared the late 80’s;
    When bikes went from 3-4″rims with bias ply tires, to 6, 8, 10″!! rims and radial tires.

  2. That’s cool to see Tom Kipp and Randy Renfrow on the Martin Adams Commonwealth Honda RC 30.
    This year at Mid-Ohio, Wiseco had a display with Tom Kipp’s privateer OW Yamaha, 50 yards from where those pictures were taken. Neat stuff,Larry.
