David Harman races his Suzuki GSXR750 in a WERA Sprint race at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway in 1986. Harman was a workmanlike sprint racer who scored solid results, but his real talent was as an endurance racer. Able to cut consistent lap times for hours on end and race under all conditions, Harman became one of the leading WERA National Endurance racers of the late 1980s and early ‘90s. He went on to become a riding instructor for new WERA racers.

That bike looks to good to be on the track. David should have left it in the garage the weekend we ran it in the Wera six hour at Roebling. We were in the late stages of the race when I had to restart due to a redflag, when out of nowhere somebody slammed me in the side at about 100 plus mph on the way to turn one taking me and that beautiful GSXR tumbling down. We were done for that day and repairs were made to bike before the next round at Indy. As we were at Indy and I was lapping the bike decided to oil up my right boot. As we inspected we came to find out the right side of the engine cover had developed a leak due to a crack that apparently had developed during the crash at Roebling. Another weekend shot down. Oh, it is racing and crashes do happen.
