This photo shows the start of what is probably a WERA E Superbike race at Roebling Road near Savannah, Georgia, in March of 1985. A couple of things stand out in this shot. One is the unique motorcycles raced in this class. The two-stroke Suzuki RG250 and Yamaha RZ250s versus Honda FT500 Ascots and Kawasaki GPz305s. Also this photo shows a husband and wife racing against each – expert Ronnie Bowen (No. 1) and novice rider Cindy Bowen (No. 713). Ronnie Bowen and his little Gamma won this race over Thebaut Dutton (No. 180) on his GPz. Many point to the little RG250 as the first mass-produced motorcycle with a lightweight aluminum frame and racing type aerodynamic fairing. Also visible in this shot are Michael Morley (No. 322), Gordon Caudill (No. 126), Wayne Rogers (No. 997), John Sanders (No. 401), Pat Chandler (No. 612) and Jonathan Walting (No. 425, behind Chandler).
