Paden & Sullivan Ready for WERA Air Tech Formula II at the GNF (1993)

Jason Paden (No. 68) and Mike Sullivan (No. 74) ready for the Air Tech Formula II race at the WERA Grand National Finals in November of 1993. Paden, from Northern California, and Sullivan, from Washington State, were a long way from home racing at Road Atlanta, but both riders had solid results in that year’s event. Sullivan finished seventh and Paden ninth in a very talented and deep field. Interestingly Tommy Hayden was running one of his early pro races in this final and finished 11th. In the background is defending series champ Kurt Hall on his No. 1 Scotty Beach-tuned Yamaha TZ250. That’s Beach standing next to Hall.

  1. Things were sure colorful back in those days, eh Larry? Correct me if I am wrong, but that’s Kurt Hall in the background on the #1 TZ, and Team Swine Dudes by the pink GSX-R on pit wall.

  2. I should learn to read more thoroughly, Larry. I now see that you pointed out Kurt Hall in your commentary. You can edit that part out of my above comment if you’d like. Still thinking that’s Swine Dudes parked and waiting for the endurance, though. Let me know.

  3. And leaning against the pit wall next to the Team Pearls Suzuki (Team Swine Dudes) GSX-R600, is the late Marty Lentz. Please note, the pink bike is an endurance machine, waiting for its race or practice, not parked on pit lane ready to compete with the sprint guys featured. But notice our huge air intakes, a modification that saved us in racing this 870lb bike.
