James Trimble the first double champ of CCS

Houston’s James Trimble came out of motocross to become one of the leading up-and-coming novice road racers of 1984. This photo shows Trimble racing his Yamaha FJ600 ahead of fellow novice rider Ron Ewerth at the 1984 WERA Grand National Finals. A few weeks earlier Trimble, who was in his first year of road racing, earned the distinction of becoming AMA/CCS’ first double national champion when he swept the Formula 2 and Middleweight Superbike Novice classed at the Daytona Race of Champions.
