Scott Russell stands atop the podium after winning the AMA 750 Supersport at Road America in June of 1989. It was a Suzuki sweep that weekend in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Russell is joined on the podium by second-place David Sadowski, from Vance & Hines Suzuki and privateer and hometown hero Scott Zampach, who took third. Russell won four rounds of the 750 Supersport Series that season, more than any other rider, but it was Yoshimura Suzuki teammate Jamie James who took the title in a close battle over Muzzy Kawasaki’s Doug Chandler.

Any race with Sadowski and Zampach in it was going to be a thriller.
