Johnny Lewis and his Scott Powersports’ Kawasaki 650 custom flat tracker ready to take on the Springfield Mile

(NEWS RELEASE)

Athlete looks to improve on last year’s best twins finish of seventh place

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (May 26, 2011) – The fastest men of the dirt oval hit the annual Memorial Weekend event in Springfield, Illinois, the Springfield Mile. Scott Powersports/Triple J Racing/DR.D’s Johnny Lewis is ready after a year of race development on the custom Kawasaki Ninja 650 flat tracker. The Springfield Mile will take place this Sunday, May 29 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, part of the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Flat Track Championship. Lewis will also compete the day before in the Springfield TT race.

The Springfield Mile will mark the first twins race of the 2011 season for the AMA Pro Flat Track Championship. Last season, Lewis debuted the Scott Powersports’ Kawasaki 650 custom flat tracker ahead of their planned schedule. He earned a ninth in his first-ever professional mile race in Springfield. Lewis’ best twins finish was a seventh at the I-96 Speedway round in July 2010.

“Last year, we took a lot of notes on bike set-up,” said Lewis who will compete on the red-and-white #10 Kawasaki. “We spent the off-season and the entire spring using this data to hone the Kawasaki 650 for pure performance on mile and half-mile tracks. Mike Scott, owner of Scott Powersports, also built a second bike so we are well-prepared for each round. The twins bike is a Kawasaki-powered motor tuned by Scott Racing Components (SRC) with a custom DR.D exhaust and FLUIDYNE radiator, all in a SRC frame suspended by Penske Racing Shocks-tuned suspension. This bike hauls and I cannot wait to get on the Springfield track this Sunday!”

At the Springfield Mile, Lewis will debut a new custom set of AXO leathers. He will also wear the new-for-2011 AXO Freedom FT boots that he debuted at the opening round in Daytona in March.

Race fans head to the Illinois State Fairgrounds this Sunday, May 29 for the annual Springfield Mile. Stop by the Scott Powersports pit to meet Lewis, enter his JL10 Sponsor Giveaway drawing and get an autographed poster, and then watch him on the mile oval riding his Scott Powersports/Triple J Racing/DR.D #10 Kawasaki 650 flat tracker in his custom AXO leathers.
