The original running of the Trans-Atlantic Match Race Series came over Easter in 1971. The race was put together by BSA/Triumph to showcase their road race bikes and bring over the emerging American road racers to compete against the more experienced British national road racers. The Brits won that first meeting, but the Americans earned the respect of the British fans and riders by showing obvious skill on tracks they’d never raced before. This photo, one of the excellent Jim Greeening Match Race Collection, shows Don Emde (No. 6) leading American teammates David Aldana (No. 3) and Jim Rice (No. 2). All three were racing BSA Rocket IIIs.

I currently have the match race trophy on display in my shop and am trying to compile a few photos of the actual races, I was actually at Oulton Park for the first one. I realise I will need permission from Jim Greening to use his photos with all acknowledgement but don’t know how to contact him. Could you help.

Brian,
I understand Jim passed away several years ago. I’m not sure who owns the rights now. You may email around to some of the British magazines to see if anyone knows.
