Edwards Leads the Pack at Road America (1993)

Colin Edwards (No. 45) leads the field early in the AMA Superbike race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Following Edwards is his Vance & Hines Yamaha teammate Jamie James (No. 2), Muzzy Kawasaki riders Miguel Duhamel (No. 17) and Tiger Sohwa (No. 60), Mike Smith on the No. 68 Camel Honda, the No. 21 Ferracci Ducati of Pascal Picotte, Dale Quarterely, Thomas Stevens on the No. 11 Yoshimura Suzuki, Doug Polen (No. 23 Ferracci Ducati) and Steve Crevier (No. 14 McBride Kawasaki).

Polen worked his way through the field to win the race over Duhamel and James.

These are the days when Polen and the Ferracci Ducati were so dominate, he was accused of sandbagging early in the race so he could get good footage for his on-board camera (Polen was selling the tapes of the on-board footage). The AMA even added weight onto twin-cylinder Superbikes to lessen Polen’s advantage, but he still went on to win that year’s championship, this after earning two-straight World Superbike titles.
