Knott, a farmer from central Illinois, was a leading AMA and WERA 250cc Grand Prix rider during the 1980s. By the end of the ‘80s Knott had racked up a total of 11 WERA National titles. That was more than any other rider up to that point in WERA history. In AMA competition he scored a handful of top-10 AMA 250 Grand Prix finishes in the ‘80s, the highlight of which was his podium in the October Daytona season finale in 1983, when he took third behind Kevin Brunson and Randy Renfrow.
