Kathleen Coburn hits the brakes on her Suzuki GSXR750 at the 1987 AMA Superbike race at Memphis Motorsports Park. Canadian Coburn qualified for a handful of AMA Superbike races in the late 1980s. Her best result came at Brainerd in June of ’87 where she finished 16th. She was sponsored at this point by instant coffee maker Nescafé.

We saw Kate pretty frequently up in the North Central. It was a bit of a shock to the system for a lot of the guys, as she was the first girl racer (in our area) who was really competitive. She was a lot of fun, as were the whole group of Canuckians she would come down with….Toni Sharpless, Malcolm McNair. They didn’t even seem to mind, when we made ‘Bob & Doug’ references!
