This is a photo taken at the start of what I’m guessing was a Heat race in the early 1980s at the famous Santa Fe Speedway. The speedway, located in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale, Illinois, hosted AMA TT and Short Track Nationals from 1961 to 1987. In fact, Santa Fe Speedway had the distinction of hosting the very first AMA Short Track National won by Carroll Resweber in 1961. Steve Eklund won the final national held at the track (a TT) in 1987. In this photo are, from the far side, Mickey Fay (59), Ted Boody (12), Terry Poovey (18), Mike Gilkey (43), Scott Pearson (95) and Jay Springsteen (9).
