Racing a Suzuki RG500 Hardtail

Late in a WERA National Endurance race at Grattan Raceway in the mid-1980s saw the rear shock break on the Suzuki RG500 of Team Gamma, one of the leading teams in the series. Check out this photo taken towards the end of the race – Team Gamma’s rider is tiptoeing through a left-hand with the rear end of the bike squatting because of the broken shock. Racing a powerful 500cc two-stroke racing machine with no rear shock had to be a major challenge to say the least.

  1. That looks like the late Craig Gaver on board Team Gamma’s 500. They went on to become Team America racing in WERA and AMACCS National Endurance Series. They garnered several National titles.
