More from Marshall

Former racing mechanic Marshall Rautmann was kind enough to send another batch of photos he snapped at the races back in the 1980s. I love this kind of stuff and I hope you enjoy them as well. Marshall tuned for some fast WERA riders back in the day such as Brian French, Dean Joas, David Klosterman, and John Eidenberger. Thanks again Marshall for letting us share these great photos.

  1. Kevin, That make sense. It almost fits, but something didn’t look quite right. The GPz had a more rounded tank as I recall. I wonder whose bike that is?

  2. Looks like an S1, which was the factory superbike available to qualified racers. They didn’t come with a fairing that I know of, let alone a GPZ fairing. Could be someone running it in vintage? Klinzman had one, but I don’t think he ever ran #2.

Hey, as long as people are sending you pics, I’ve got a bunch from some IRP races around ’82 or ’83. Some interesting bikes in there, but not sure who’s they are. Interested?

  3. That is Bill Wood, who worked for the AMA for many years on the 93 Guzzi 1000. He was writing a story on Dr. John and his team for the AMA magazine. The article was called “Who are these guys ? ” Dr. John is on the Guzzi 850 from the ’84 season. John led Bill for a lap around the Daytona Speedway to get his impression of the bike for the article.
Bill Wood was one of the many who was let go after many years of service to the AMA when the “New AMA ” took control. I think it’s time for another major change at the AMA, How ’bout you ?
