Sawyer racing in Indy

Brad Sawyer, of Ft. Worth, Texas, races his Hall ‘n Still Racing/Roadracing World Yamaha in the WERA Air Tech Formula II Championship race at Indianapolis Raceway Park in August of 1992. Sawyer was a leading 250 Grand Prix rider of the early 1990s. Not only did he score a national title with WERA, he also earned a podium finish (third) in the Mid-Ohio AMA 250 Grand Prix race in 1991, finishing behind winner Jimmy Filice and runner up Nick Ienatsch. In all Sawyer scored four top-10 AMA 250 Grand Prix finishes in 1991 and finished ranked 10th in the AMA 250GP Championship. Interestingly Sawyer’s bike is sponsored here by Roadracing World. This had to be one of the earliest teams with sponsorship from the publication, which was launched only 10 months before this photo was taken.

  1. If you saw that bike in the pits…it had gobs of carbon on it. Brad was a principal in a company that made carbon composite parts for the aerospace industry. He would come to the track w/ a carbon work table to put his bike on. He carried a carbon briefcase, had carbon clipboards. The bike had carbon bits all over…. brakes, silencer, carbon pistons… And Brad was the nicest of guys too.
