The 1994 Road America 750 Supersport race boiled down to a three-way race-long battle for the lead between Yoshimura Suzuki riders, Tom Kipp and Britt Turkington, and Fred Merkel of Muzzy Kawasaki.
The ultra-fast four-mile circuit let the Suzuki riders stretch out and use the high top speed of the their GSXRs to the max. Turkington earned his first 750 Supersport pole since Pomona with a run of 2:23.477 (100.365 mph) on the four-mile circuit. Turkington’s fast lap not only broke Scott Russell’s two year old mark of 2:24.029, it was also the first time anyone had lapped the circuit at over 100 miles per hour on a Supersport bike.
Veterans Merkel and Kipp qualified second and third respectively, while up and coming racers James Randolph and Jason Pridmore rounded out the top five qualifiers.
Turkington led early with Merkel and Kipp fighting over third. Rothman got away from Pridmore and rode a lonely fourth.

Rothman finished by himself in fourth while Kinko’s Yamaha teammates Pridmore and Tom Wilson battled late with Wilson getting the nod.
“Having Tom back in the class has definitely upped the tempo,” said a complimentary Merkel.
Kipp took the modest approach, “My Suzuki had top end on Fred’s Kawasaki.”
Kipp shattered the 750 Supersport race record at Road America by averaging 99.536 miles per hour during the 12 lap event.
