Here’s a new installment in the superb Jim Greening Transatlantic Match Race photo series. This is from the 1978 edition of the series. Brands Hatch is the track and it’s Suzuki’s Pat Hennen leading the way over fellow American rider Kenny Roberts (14) followed by Brits Ron Haslam, Mick Grant (10) and Dave Potter (behind Grant). It was Hennen who was the top individual scorer in that year’s Match Races, followed by Roberts. Yet in spite of having the two leading scorers the Brits gobbled up the majority of the rest of the points to score victory (435-379). Hennen scored three wins, and two seconds and a third in one of the most dominant performances in the history of the Transatlantic. Today Hennen a member of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. You can read his biography here.
