Mees on Ice

(News Release)

JARED MEES —- ICE REPORT

Well, it’s been a little over a month since I wrote anything. After getting back from the Stockton Mile we had two weeks off and then the ice racing season started.

Des Moines IA – the first race was in Des Moines. I won both of my Heat races and was 2nd off the Pole, based on times. I got off the line in second place but the Pole sitter, Jeremy DeRuyter, stalled his bike between turns 3 and 4. I rode around him on the outside and was stuck out there, which allowed Kevin Anderson to come up and take the lead. I tried squaring him off the corner but ran into his back wheel, sending me on the ice and ending my night with a DNF. Not the way I wanted the first race to go, but, hey, that’s indoor ice racing!!!

Toledo OH – Toledo is nice because it is only about two hours from my house, if that much. Again I won both of my Heats but didn’t really feel that dominant. The ice was really soft, so for the Main Event we changed the set-up a little and I was able to pull out to a lead and win this one.

We had Thanksgiving weekend off this year which was nice because I was able to travel back to Pennsylvania and enjoy the holiday with my family.

Next two races was a double-header on the West Coast: Portland OR and Seattle WA.

We’ve been there before.

Portland OR – I drew really good numbers for my Heat races and won them both, sat on the Pole and led all laps, feeling pretty good. I was able to control my own race. A couple of riders fell down, slowing the pace down some.

Kent WA – The next night was Kent WA. Again I drew some really good numbers and won both of my heats, putting me again on the Pole. I really felt comfortable here and it’s the best I felt so far this year on ice. Perhaps it’s just getting more in the groove. I got the hole shot and lead all the laps, with a nice gap at the end.

We’re off to Fresno CA next week and then we get time off until next year.

Everyone take care and stay warm.
